Documentary Analysis: AAB( Minerva School Project)
AAB presents “Minerva School Project”
AAB also known as water, where water is a source of life, AAB claims to provide life as well. The documentary takes us into the lives of these children who are underprivileged and victims of either abuse or child labour. This documentary sheds light on the initiative taken by the organisation called “AAB”, who have started off with a school project called “Minerva”.
The school has been running without any international funding and provides children with basic education form the age of 5-16. Similarly , the school has been recognised for its efforts and won the British Council International School Award 2015-2018 for intercultural activities in school. The documentary takes us into the classrooms, homes and shows us the children, their teachers and head of the school as well.
The documentary is an interactive and observational text , which first starts with slow instrumental music which continues through out and introduces us to the area where these children live and belong from. There are interviews of a mother describing her life situation and how difficult it is for her to send her children to school because of her marital problems. There are shots of the children at home , their surroundings etc.
Similarly we get to see the school where they go to study, the classroom environment, to the students themselves engaged in activities. Followed by two interviews , one of the teachers who describe their own experience of learning from the school and the schools head describing the purpose behind establishing the school. She explains how this will contribute to the children becoming better, well placed citizens of the society. The interviews and shots of the children and surroundings were mostly centre medium or pans.
