Creative Critical Reflection: Question 2

How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of ‘branding’?

Ans:  There are various elements of my production that work together to create a sense of branding. In order for our product to stand out, there are a few things that we should keep in check just like I have:

  • What color grade should the video have: Adding colour to the your product is important just like I did. From the film; using colourful shots to the posters, website and promotions, I used a variety of colours from the primary pallet to avoid making my product look dull and make it stand out.
  • Does it need to have a professional aesthetic: Yes, I believe it is very important for your product in my case a documentary film to have a proffesional aesthetic. That is because shaky camera shots, bad picture quality and wrong angles can really spoil the whole mood of your film, as it serves as a distraction for the viewer itself. So, that is why I used the Canon 60D camera, a tripod and a crane to make sure my footage was good quality, same goes for my editing.
  • How do the graphics reinforce the brand: Graphics are again a very important part which I have tried to make as good as I can. I used the best software to edit my film, make sure that the editing(shots ,music, colour ) was well in sync and informative. The posters designed were of the best picture quality and the titles were well placed, in attractive fonts for the product to stand out. Similarly the website for my documentary's promotion is also in bright colours , with links to Youtube and Instagram for the product to be promoted. The logo is mentioned throughout the page.

  • How does the music will reinforce the brand: The music plays a very important role, as it shows that the brand is more on the minimalistic side. The music's purpose is to reinforce the whole idea of creating social values and making the product inspiratinal for the viewers.

  • Does the video use a tripod or Crane: Yes, it does and a product must be made using the best possible resources available. This is very important for branding as it creates a value for the product being best in quality.
  • Does the video feature narration: Yes, mine being a documentar film does feature narration of the NGO's founder. I feel that the narration by an important figure was essentialn to add value to my documentary so that the message being conveyed had a higher weightage in the eyes of the audience.
  • Does the video get promoted on the internet: Most definetly, I promoted my product by making an instagram account for it, to attarct audience and make them closer to it. I shared behind the scenes snaps, posters and pictures. Siilarly, I uploaded the documentary on Youtube another mainstream platform, accessible to a majority of people. The website was also an addition to the promotion of the documentary, with the heading being that of its title.

So, these were the elements that came together to create a sense of branding of my documentary film.
