Narrative Development: The Art Of Story Telling

Image
Steps to a successfu l narrative: Tell a True Story: The audience is more keen to see a true or near to reality based story. Since, we are focusing on a documentary, it is a must that our content is authentic and based on facts and figures. Structure your narrative: Try and lay out your rough idea. Which is also referred to as the "vision" of a film maker. I had a vision the instant I decided I was making a documentary. It was, make it short, precise, touching and informative. Research: The most important step before sitting down to write a script for a documentary was to do research. I made sure I was well informed about the organistation I was covering and how sensitive their representation is. I collected data on how the organisation is run, what they are known for, and where are there operations conducted. Writing the Script: Sit down with a cup of tea. Grab a paper and a pencil. Meeting Miss Tahera: Founder of Imkaan Welfare Organisation

Image
Meeting to set schedules   Note: Added this picture recently because I forgot to take pictures from our meeting :( Today, I met miss Tahera Hassan, founder of the 'Imkaan Welfare Organisation'. It was our first time meeting after I talked to her on the phone. The thing with working with an organization, that too at a young age is that people give you that leverage for making mistakes or asking too many questions. Thankfully, Miss Tahera was very kind in guiding me about Imkaan. She explained how Imkaan runs, where it is located, what is their mission and how I can cover it. We decided on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday of February to shoot. She gave me the contact of their field officer in Machar(Mosquito) Colony. So that he could lead me to their facilities and make me meet their staff and children. Similarly, we decided that the Friday we choose will be used to take her interview. As she is usually free on Friday mornings and the week can be decided next month.

Why are documentaries necessary?

Here is Why: Documentary films are an in-depth and informative resource which are a perfect platform to create dialogue. They serve as powerful tools that bring important topics to the table in a captivating way that also sparks conversation, and sometimes even social movements. Character-driven, feature-length documentaries focused on the stories of real people put a human face on global issues that might otherwise seem distant or unrelatable. Hearing and seeing these real experiences through the dedicated work of documentary filmmakers helps us put ourselves in the shoes of others, building bridges of empathy in a world that desperately needs our engagement and compassion. Not only do documentaries provide an opportunity to understand and connect with the world, they are also a great way to gather together with friends to watch and engage around the important issues of our times. Watching more documentaries is important, but talking about them together in person is equally im
