Music Video Week !

Image
Looking into: Music videos We've been having a music video week and during that time we got an insight into the work we will have to put in it. We saw music videos of different genres and themes. Most were on a love story or a heart break. We focused on observing their props , imagery , and in-sync editing . There were different types of after effects used, and the most important thing we got to know was , how the narrative should make sense with the song. Matching the song and narrative allow a better comprehension of the lyrics , mood and overall composition . Especially, focusing on details like perfect syncing , is what might make our video a success or fail. We not only looked into professional productions but works of previous Media Studies candidates as well. It gave us an insight into the mistakes that might occur during our production process, so at best we could identify them earlier.

Documentary Week!

Different Genres , Different Styles! This month we had a whole week dedicated to watching documentaries. They included different types of genres and styles, from observational to interactive and interview based stories. I learned how we can portray or convey a story by using different editing techniques and recording them by using different angles. Two of the documentaries I particularly liked were the “Saving Face” by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and a film-style documentary called “Background” by Fazal Ahmad and Abdul Basit. As they’re two unique stories being covered; one about the many acid attack victims in Pakistan and the other about the life of a supporting actor in the Pakistani Media Industry. Here are their links and posters: Background https://youtu.be/uLlWAQHezQI Saving Face https://youtu.be/Rd1DebORZAs

Editing Week!

A picture from in between editing lesson! This week we learnt: Trimming   Making a timeline   How to use basic tools such as razor , drag etc. Colour grade  Using Effects   For Trimming  we were revised how to properly trim our footage, in order for it to be adjusted onto the timeline and fit perfectly. The timeline  was a tricky part as adding extras such as audio , subtitles is a job that requires patience, technique and practice to perfect. We were given an assignment followed by this class to experience it on our own despite having prior experience in As-level. Using tools such as razor and drag might seem small but having practicing it was emphasised on to get a grasp on them, as it would help us making things easier for our A2 project. The tricky part is colour grading , which is very difficult to manage. We not only got a gist of the colour wheel , but on the colour gradients as well. Learning how to balance the colours and not getting overboard

Why choose a documentary?

Image
Why did I choose a documentary over film/music video? Personal attachment: The reason I chose a documentary was so that I could show and recognise the efforts of the locals, who are putting their heart and soul into making the world a better place. These people deserve the most recognition because they go out of the way, without having a personal vendetta to help their community. In definition a community may be a particular group of people, probably separated area to area, but in their eyes the people are one single uniform unit. It is not an easy task to carry out, to go into the suburbs of the city, specially helping out people in need, what's the point? The point is to give back, give them access to their basic human rights, a right to live a day without sleeping hungry, a right to see their kids nourish and live a better life, a right to education, a right to live a healthy life, not curtailed by financial or environmental factors. I believe 5 minuets was a dif
